Book Report: Overland Escape

Book Report: Overland Escape
by KittyKat
The Overland Escape, by Lee Roddy, is a story about a girl and her cousin coming home to find there house empty. This fictional novel introduces Hildy Corrigan, a lovable girl from Texas, and her cousin Ruby, and orphan also from Texas, coming home to discover her stepmother had moved with Hildy's brother and four sisters. Desperate to find her family, Hildy runs with Ruby to her grandma's, only to discover her grandma planned this evil plot. Running with rage, Hildy is more determined to find her family before they reached California. Her dad found work in California and was coming to pick-up her family. Hitching rides and finding a friend, "Spud", Hildy discovers the love of God once more. Before Hildy's mother died, she believed in God, until now she hated God. With new hope from God, Hildy has courage to go on. Leaving Spud behind, Hildy and Ruby find their uncle, Hildy's step-mothers brothers. Safe in their uncle's barn, their uncle is also determined to find Molly. Luckily, Spud came just in time to say goodbye to Hildy and Ruby. With tearful goodbyes, Hildy and Ruby departed in rickety car to reach Hildy's family. They were a family again. Happily they rode to California. Spud found a cowboy job. I really enjoyed this story, because it shows how important family is.
